varicose veins atlanta

CONTINUED...

Ramsey first had surgery to treat his varicose veins while in his 20s. The pain and other side effects never completely went away, but he dealt with it as best he could.

“I’ve managed to be a pretty active guy despite the problem,” he says. “My legs constantly felt ‘dead’ when I was officiating and I’ve always had some type of pain, but I tried not to let it slow me down.”

All that changed when some time on the Internet led him to VEININNOVATIONS.

Ramsey soon learned that in a world of “quick fix” advertising for vein problems, VEININNOVATIONS stands out from the rest.

VEININNOVATIONS does it all – and no one else around here does. Other groups or clinics do sclerotherapy, which is fine for cosmetic work. But the physicians at VEININNOVATIONS also do vein closures and treat saphenous vein reflux.”

In other words, the specialists at VEININNOVATIONS search deeper for the root of each patient’s problem and offer more comprehensive services tailored to their situations. Every patient’s initial visit to VEININNOVATIONS includes an ultrasound to look beyond surface or cosmetic issues to discover where the problems begin or to uncover potential problems the patient might not be aware of.

Some patients only have spider veins that are easily treated with lasers or with sclerotherapy (a process of injecting special fluid so that the affected vein becomes non-functional and, in most cases, disappears). But other patients have more complex problems that need more specialized treatment.

Ramsey was one such patient. The specialists at VEININNOVATIONS determined that a procedure known as vein closure was his best treatment option. That meant the VI physician used a catheter heated by radiofrequency energy to close off part of the large veins that were causing Ramsey’s problems. Each of Ramsey’s legs was treated, with the procedures scheduled two weeks apart.

Most patients who have vein closure treatments return to normal activities within one day of their treatment. Ramsey was no exception.

“I was already so active that I didn’t have much rehabilitation time,” he says. “I actually needed to lay off my usual activities a bit instead of building back up to a certain physical level. I took a break for about six weeks before beginning to ease back into things.”

Now that he’s back to full capacity, Ramsey couldn’t be happier. His only regret is that he didn’t find VEININNOVATIONS and have treatments sooner.
“I should’ve done this earlier. But at least now I have, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”

The cosmetic difference is definitely a plus, with Ramsey saying he’s still seeing improvement several months after the procedures. But the biggest bonus is the physical difference when he’s on the football field.

“For the first time, I’m not hurting this season. I think this has probably added 5 to 10 years to my officiating career.”

And for a man who spends his autumn weekends keeping up with a field full of men much younger than himself, that’s saying a lot.
